IDA MOUNTAINS – CANAKKALE KAZ DAGLARI

Canakkale Ida Mountains, also known as “Kaz daglari” by Turkish people, are located in the northwestern part of Turkey on the Biga peninsula near Canakkale. The highest point of the region stands at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, with the highest peaks being Karatas Hill (1774m), Babatepe Hill (1765m), and Yellow Girl Hill (1726m). On April 17, 1993, the Ida Mountain National Park was declared in the Official Gazette of Turkey (number 21555) by the Council of Ministers. The park is located in the Balikesir Edremit district and is home to numerous small lakes, ponds, about 30 streams, 10 waterfalls, and various recreational areas, which provide visitors with a paradise-like atmosphere.

Being at the intersection of the Aegean and Marmara regions, the Ida Mountain National Park experiences a unique combination of climates that supports a rich variety of fauna and flora, including endemic species. Its high altitude and deep valleys also provide ideal growing conditions for various plants, making the park one of Turkey’s botanical gardens.
