Anıtkabir, also known as the Ataturk Mausoleum, is located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and is home to one of the country’s most significant architectural masterpieces. This remarkable example of modern Turkish architecture was designed by the renowned Turkish architect, Emin Onat, and was constructed between 1944 and 1953.
Finally, the projects submitted by Professor Emin Onat and Associate Professor Orhan Arda were selected, and the construction of Anıtkabir began in 1944. It was completed in 1953.

The walls of Anıtkabir, made from dark-colored Bilecik marble, are 32 meters by 60 meters and 20 meters high. The ceiling of the Big Saloon is adorned with gold mosaics.
ATATURK MUSEUM
The glorious museum located in Anıtkabir contains Ataturk’s shaving sets, walking sticks, gifts, and other possessions, as well as numerous photographs of him and his valuable family. Additionally, the museum displays the weapons of famous figures such as Sabiha Gökçen (the first female combat pilot) and Afet İnan (an adopted child of Ataturk), as well as a miniature Quran belonging to Rukiye Erkine (another of his adopted daughters) that was given to her as a gift by Ataturk.
Furthermore, the museum features a special library dedicated to Ataturk. Among the numerous books found in the library, the most significant one is undoubtedly “Nutuk.” The library also contains books on Turkish and Islamic history, literature, social sciences, Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, French, English, German, Russian, Arabic, Persian, and Slavic languages, with a total of 3,115 books on display.
THE LIONS IN THE MONUMENT
When you step into the Ataturk Mausoleum, you will see 24 lion sculptures on each side of the road. These fascinating lions symbolize both the 24 Oghuz Tribes and power. They also reflect the unity of the Turkish people. However, the most interesting thing is the lions found with their heads bent towards the tomb.
FLAGSTAFF
One of the other valuable pieces in Anıtkabir is the Flagstaff, which stands at a height of 33.5 meters. It was gifted to Turkey by Nazmi Cemal in 1946, and holds significant historical importance.
